Film, fashion and bling, during the summer months Cannes
visibly glitters under the weight of jewellery, cameras and sun-tan
lotion attracted to its sandy shores. There are few city promenades
more dazzling than La Croisette in Cannes. Whatever the season,
this beautiful sea-front promenade hosts film stars, tourist and
local joggers along its 2km espalande. But showy visitors apart,
Cannes has a plenty to boast for itself. The town is set within a
beautiful bay, one long curving sandy beach lined with beach-front
restaurants where you can enjoy superb fresh seafood washed down
with a light Chablis and still wriggle your toes in the sand. All
this against a backdrop of some of the world's most famous hotels
such as the Majestic, the Cannes Carlton and the Martinez. Visitors
don't come to Cannes for history, but ironically it's a town of
tradition in the making. People come to Cannes to compete for the
Palm d'Or, to see and to be seen among the myriad of fun lovers and
attention seekers.
